The Town of Drumheller will be conducting a needs assessment study for social housing in the community.

Canada Mortgage Housing Corporation (CMHC) have approved Drumheller's grant application for $10,000 to assist in a needs assessment study of social housing in the community.

"This $10,000 that will go towards a needs assessment to identify which social housing would work the best here in Drumheller," economic development officer of the Town of Drumheller Cody Glydon explained.

He added the identification of housing needs in Drumheller is a top priority in the Economic Development Strategic Plan put together by the Economic Development Task Force in 2014.

The needs assessment will get underway as soon as the town receives the grant.

"We're looking at doing more high density residential, so we'd be looking more at a condo townhouse style," Glydon told 99.5 Drum FM.

"It depends on what the results are from the needs assessment study."

The needs assessment won't just determine what kind of housing will be best, but which groups of people will use the housing.

"This isn't going to be an overnight process, but we're on the way to making some success here."

The Town of Drumheller are in the process of selecting a consultant.
