The latest change in the weather shows spring isn't all that far away and it isn't too soon to be making vacation plans, especially if you're a camper.![]()

Alberta Parks' online campsite booking system will reopen for business on February 22.
"We introduced the RAP (Reserve Alberta Parks) system back in 2009 and it has done nothing but steadily grow," bragged Tim Chamberlain of Alberta Environment and Parks. "We processed over 151,000 online camping reservations last year alone, which was our highest season total to date."
Chamberlain told 99.5 Drum FM they've added new campgrounds, group sites and comfort camping this year.
"Specific to your region, we have some new campgrounds at the St. Mary Reservoir lower campground (near Cardston) in addition to Thunder Lake (west of Barrhead) and we also have a new group camping area on the RAP system at St. Mary Campground as well."
Something else new this spring is the expected addition of mobile access to the reservation site.
"We're anticipating that a lot of Albertans may choose to stay at home over the course of the summer and, hopefully, camp in our provincial parks," said Chamberlain. "With the dollar being as it is right now, it's an excellent (vacation) option and an affordable option."
